Announcing the 2008 b/rCS Challenge

To date, we’ve had great success with several contests in a variety of sporting communities.  But we’ve never done anything like this.

Welcome to the b/rCS—our latest, and most ambitious writing competition yet.

Unlike the BCS, our formula couldn’t be simpler.  And rest assured, the most deserving writer will end up in South Florida.

Every day from now until December 9th, Bleacher Report is keeping score.  The writer who finishes the season with the most cumulative “My Picks” votes will be sent to Miami to report from the BCS National Championship on January 8, 2009.  We’ll also be awarding some cool second and third place prizes.

Remember: only registered B/R members have access to the “My Picks” function.  So encourage your fellow college football addicts to sign up and start writing.

To enter the contest, click here.  And as always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the b/rCS, I’m available at trey@bleacherreport.com.

Good luck, and here’s to yet another reason why Bleacher Report is your home for college football coverage.

  • Lisa Horne

Woo hoo! sounds like fun! I would be happy with the consolation prizes! OK b/r writers, let’s start writing some good articles and push this website over the 2 million hits per month bar. :)

One thing…do you just click/highlight the “accept the terms and conditions” sentence to enter? How do I know if I am registered?

  • http://www.heavywritesthepen.com/ Angel Navedo

Sounds like a wonderful idea that’ll definitely boost traffic. However, I fear that it’s going to cause some unfair voting. The writers here are talented, but I’m afraid it may result in whoever has the most friends being declared the winner. What happens when a friend logs in only to vote without fairly reviewing other articles?

  • Trey

An important point, thanks for bringing it up Angel. Several others have emailed me with the same concern.

Rest assured, we have safeguards in place with respect to the MyPicks feature. We’ll also be vigilant about policing abuse throughout the course of the competition.

We’re very confident that those efforts will reward the most deserving writers over the course of a long, but exciting college football season.

  • Alex Rogan

Lisa Horne’s article on college football was killer!

    Usually is …btw

  • Zander Freund

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Angel—trust me, nobody is going to be able to cheat their way to victory/game the system. I can’t reveal the specifics (for obvious reasons) but my strong advice to everyone is to play it clean, because WE ARE GOING TO CATCH ANY CHEATERS AND BRING THEM TO JUSTICE.

Lisa—just click the orange “I Accept the Terms & Conditions” button and you’re in. I’ll take a look and make sure that you officially registered.

    Who’s ready for some football!?!

  • Owen Munro

    Hey guys,

I have seen the b/rCS terms & conditions, and I noticed Canadians were not allowed to be “in the running” for prizes. I can’t say I’m thrilled about it (lol) as I am living in Canada, and have for all my life. Although, would it still be possible to compete in the contest, and see where we rank at the end of it all?

    Thank you,
    Owen Munro.

  • Tim Parent

    Hey guys,

Owen raises a good point. Lot of diverse voices on Bleacher from across the globe. I understand various laws prevent those from outside the USA from entering but perhaps Canadians, Brits and whomever else can take part and perhaps win a Bleacher baseball cap or something?

    Just my two cents.

  • Rafal Ladysz

Do our articles that get picked have to be college football, or can they be related to any sport?

  • Trey

Folks, some understandable questions here as we get underway. Let me draw your attention to the “How it Works” section…

    2. Contribute quality college football articles to Bleacher Report. Make sure that any articles you wish to count towards the b/rCS are tagged with “College Football”.

    3. Every time another Bleacher Report member gives one of your college football articles a MyPicks vote, you earn one point in the b/rCS.

So yes, only MyPicks for college football articles count.

    Great idea Bleacher Report.

Every once in a while, a writer needs a motivational push.

In the middle of October, when someone has writer’s block, remind them of this contest.

    Good stuff!

That nice gentle breeze in the air. The sound of a band in the distance. The thrill of the adrenaline that is corsing through your veins. It must be football season! And I LOVE IT!!!
