Introducing Bleacher Report’s new roster of Lead Writers
You may have noticed an influx of new voices on the site as of late. It’s highly intentional and very exciting for Bleacher Report.
A couple months back, we announced we were expanding our Lead Writer program to help us create the same kind of depth on the teams and topics level that writers like Dan Levy, Josh Zerkle and Matt Miller have helped us achieve on a leaguewide and national level.
The goal: Find the best expert voices on the web on specific topics and give them the opportunity to build a community on B/R. We want great writers, but it goes way beyond prose.
To be up for consideration for the program, candidates need to be savvy with social media and understand the importance of reader interaction.
We’re looking for prospects who can be strong voices on video as well—that doesn’t mean you have to be a video pro, just a potential star with a watchability factor that we can build on.
Most of all, whether it is a current Bleacher Report writer or an external candidate, we want folks who will embrace the community aspect of working for B/R. We want our Lead Writers to be mentors for the rest of the sport or team’s writers, and ambassadors for the Bleacher Report brand.
That can take many paths—reading others’ work and including it on their blog, having online chats with other writers and becoming one-on-one tutors to junior writers are just some of the ways we expect our Lead Writers to engrain themselves in the B/R culture.
We have received an incredible influx of interest, more than 600 résumés thus far for the 20 spots we’re hiring this spring.
It’s been a pleasure to head up an extensive recruiting process. Our due diligence culminated with an in-house review board consisting of leaders from our quality control, social media, video and media relations departments.
That has led us to unveiling our first wave of hires. They’ve been hard at work. They’re the new voices you may have noticed. But allow me to introduce them formally:
Aaron Nagler (national lead blogger), founder of the celebrated everything-Packers site CheeseheadTV.com.
Nate Dunlevy (AFC South), a star voice on ColtsAuthority.com.
Knox Bardeen (NFC South), Falcons correspondent for CBS Sports and a veteran Atlanta TV and radio personality.
Andrew Garda (NFC North), a B/R writer who has also made a name for himself at FootballGuys.com and CheeseheadTV.com.
Erik Frenz (AFC East), a home-grown Bleacher Report success story and respected New England journalist who has had his work published on ESPN.com.
Sigmund Bloom (NFL Draft), a signature voice on Footballguys.com and former lead voice on Draftguys.com.

Holly MacKenzie, a rising star who has written for The Basketball Jones, SLAM and ESPN.com.
Ethan Sherwood Strauss, an ESPN TrueHoop network writer and WarriorsWorld.com lead voice.
Steven Goldman (American League, national lead writer), former editor-in-chief of Baseball Prospectus and founder of premier Yankees blog The Pinstriped Bible.

Jay Clemons (MLB and NFL fantasy expert), former fantasy expert for SI.com and the National Football Post.
Adam Kramer (Your Best 11 blog lead writer), founder of the popular Kegs ‘n Eggs blog and MSNBC.com and Fox Sports.com contributor.

Will Tidey (Lead Writer), the author of “Life With Sir Alex” and a contributor to ESPN Soccernet and Eurosport-Yahoo.
We’re not done hiring by any means. Our goal here is the continued escalation of the quality bar at Bleacher Report and to further promote a meritocracy among our writing community.
