Quote of the Day: Stephen King tells Roget to beat it

Any word you have to hunt for in a thesaurus is the wrong word. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Stephen King

Actually, I can think of one exception to this rule. I generally don’t pluck words I don’t know out of a thesaurus unless I’m trying to be funny, but if a word is on the tip of my tongue and I can’t for the life of me think what it is, the thesaurus is a good way to find it.

And I think one way of keeping the English language alive is by using a few of its mossy words every now and then.

      You are indubitably correct, sir.

        Thanks to thee, sir. ;-)

Is the English language in some danger of dying? The way languages live is the same way most organisms live (I think): By constantly growing and evolving, shedding things that don’t work in favor of things that work better.
