In honor of the MLB amateur draft Monday, we have a couple of baseball slideshows worth a look today.

Joel Reuter put a ton of research into naming an all-draft team — complete with batting order — for every year from 1990 to 2005.

It’s another great example of how the slideshow format can be used. The same piece, as a narrative, would be a long, hard-to-read screed with 16 tables in it listing the lineups. As a slideshow, it carries the reader along briskly.

Not draft-related, but a fun baseball slideshow for people who love or hate the Boston Red Sox, which is everyone: Matt Strobl runs down the 10 worst signings in Red Sox history in honor of Daisuke Matsuzaka’s impending Tommy John surgery.

I have to take issue with listing J.D. Drew fourth. According to Fangraphs, he’s been worth almost exactly $14 million a year during his five-year, $14 million-a-year deal. But I have to admit that’s a pretty authentic example of Red Sox-fan neurosis.

    While we Sox fans may indeed specialize in being neurotic, I stand by my Drew selection. Ordinarily I’m the last guy to support the “eye test”, but you have to have watched J.D. play over the years to understand why he was such a horrendous move for Boston. Plus, as I said- it’s all relative to the level of expectations and the type of talent the player possesses…
