Twitter for Newsrooms: A resource worth looking at
Twitter has released a new guide for journalists called Twitter for Newsrooms. The hashtag for it is #TfN.
“We want to make our tools easier to use,” the site reads, “so you can focus on your job: finding sources, verifying facts, publishing stories, promoting your work and yourself–and doing all of it faster and faster all the time.”
The site focuses on three main areas: Report, Engage and Publish, with a fourth section called Extra, which is a support and resource section.
Note that this is different from the Knight Digital Media Center’s Twitter for Journalists, a tutorial discussed in this space last week.
As 10,000 Words notes, the resource is akin to Facebook for Journalists, and contains “a variety of best practices geared towards streamlining Twitter reporting and making Twitter a more efficient journalism tool.”
Both the Facebook and Twitter resources are a sign, writes Poynter’s Jeff Sonderman, that “that social networks are trying to place themselves at the center of the news system.”
I haven’t had a chance to explore Twitter for Journalists yet, but Sonderman writes, “Power users may not find much new here, but it’s a good resource for general training.”
