SportsPro magazine recently named Usain Bolt the most marketable athlete on the planet.

We’ve gotten off the track of having weekly Brainstorms, but let’s get back to it.

To review: We want to use the wisdom of this blog’s crowd to come up with ideas for a slideshow that’s in the works at Bleacher Report. It’s fun, it’s productive and hardly any editors are harmed.

    Definitely one of the new, top players with an extremely high marketability is Jimmer Fredette. He is super-famous from college, he’s a mormon, he’s a short white guy (always marketable…thanks Dustin Pedroia and Wes Welker), and he has the best first name of all time.

    Everyone knows the major sports stars, so I’m going to go outside the box for this one with an emphasis on international marketability. Rory McIlroy, Landon Donovan, Abby Wambach, Djokovic, Federer, Nadal, Sharapova (still).

    My top 5 would probably be:
    1. Dwight Howard
    2. Kevin Durant
    3. LeBron James
    4. Dwayne Wade
    5. Deron Williams (playing in a major market now and building his international presence).

    Nobody that plays for an American based sport should be in this list. This mean all NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL players are out. This is due to the question being asked of who is the most marketable sports person in the WORLD, not just the USA.
