Shoutouts: Baseball greats and great debates
Let’s start the week with some baseball Shoutouts.
What ever happened to loyalty? I used to have a good friend who had a good theory about that, but I forget what it was and I’ve ditched him so I can’t ask. Anyway, whether loyalty is a factor or not, Brandon McClintock has a great slideshow covering The 50 Greatest Baseball Players to Only Play for One Franchise.
It’s a fun list, though it’s not perfect. You know a lot of the guys you’re going to find here—Musial, Jeter, Feller, Ripken … Kranepool. It’s interesting to note how many of the pantheon did not play for just one team. But where’s Joe Charboneau? He only played for one club.
OK, there’s another Joe missing too. Can you spot him?
Joel Reuter reviews The Most Famous Person in the History of Every MLB Franchise, which is a cool way to look at things. As any fan of a team that’s had an all-time great announcer can tell you, it isn’t always a player.
And finally, I really enjoyed a debate that was carried on at Bleacher Report over the weekend.
George Darkow wrote that the Texas Rangers haven’t done enough for Cooper Stone, the boy who’s dad fell to his death at a Rangers game earlier this year.
Micah Powell respectfully disagreed, and the debate continued in the comments of both pieces.
Civility! It’s what the Internet’s all about.
