Kevin Trahan: Iowa featured columnist moves on to Medill

Kevin Trahan

Kevin Trahan

Kevin Trahan is no longer an Iowa football featured columnist for Bleacher Report. At least not for a while. He’s a freshman at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

And he says he might not have gotten in to either Medill or Northwestern if it hadn’t been for his time at Bleacher Report.

With his permission, here are some highlights from a note Trahan sent to college football editor Rich Thomaselli:

I plan to keep contributing to Bleacher Report in some capacity, but would like time to pursue other opportunities at school, at least until I get settled in. I’m covering Northwestern football, basketball and recruiting for Scout and I am also contributing to the Daily Northwestern. I plan on being the Daily’s women’s basketball beat writer this winter …

Thank you for all the opportunities you have offered me at B/R and thank you for the opportunity to be a Featured Columnist, and I hope that I can return to that position sometime in the future …

Trey [Bradley] is the first person I worked with at B/R and he helped me find assignments that I was interested in and helped me learn more about the sport. He also pushed for me to get credentials to two Iowa games, which has been one of the best experiences of my journalism career. Without his help, I may have never received the position I had at B/R.

Bleacher Report has been an outstanding way for me to gain experience in journalism and I can safely say that I wouldn’t be at Northwestern, nor would I be writing for Scout, if it weren’t for this company. In fact, the Daily Northwestern is profiling “interesting freshman” and chose me as one because of my experience at B/R.

Great stuff. Congrats to you Kevin!

    Great story, congrats Kevin.
I have a similar story as well. My work at B/R was really crucial in me receiving a co-op reporter position with the Boston Globe last semester.

B/R is an amazing place to build a resume and learn about journalism!
