Quote of the Day: Thank you damn much

Substitute “damn” every time you’re inclined to write “very”; your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be.

—Mark Twain

A writing teacher of mine once said, “Very is the least very word in the language.”

This is a damn good idea!

Sam Clements was no dummy. He was dam smart!

Thanks for the info, I’ll never use that damn word very again.

  • Angie Lincoln

I believe every word has a proper place…sometimes it is a question of cadence and rhythm, not just emphasis. Sometimes “very” is the perfect adverb; finding a nice place for it can vary. (lol)
