An exclamation point is like laughing at your own joke.
I disagree! And so does Tom Wolfe!!!
But I do think it’s wise to at least consider what Scott, as his buddies called him, said. If you’re going to use an exclamation point, or any other of the more flamboyant tools at your disposal, have a good reason. Think about it. Be able to defend it. Be conscious as you write.
Is that statement really worth an exclamation point? Really? If not, take it out!
