Quote of the Day: When you’re done, you can start

The time to begin writing an article is when you have finished it to your satisfaction.  By that time you begin to clearly and logically perceive what it is you really want to say.

Mark Twain

We often don’t have the time required to put old Sam’s advice into practice, but it’s still a useful way to think about writing. Even in a furiously paced, deadline-driven world, there are usually a few minutes for a little revision or editing.

Sometimes the piece you thought you were writing when you started isn’t the piece you ended up writing. Is there something you can do to the top of it that would make the whole thing mesh together better?
