Quote of the Day: Ya gotta have want

You must want to enough. Enough to take all the rejections, enough to pay the price of disappointment and discouragement while you are learning. Like any other artist you must learn your craft—then you can add all the genius you like.
Phyllis A. Whitney

This “new generation” of job seekers comes from the “everyone gets a trophy” age group where disappointment and discouragement are thought of as devastating moments in a young persons development rather than a great learning experience. Parents think it’s a horrible thing to “fail” but great lessons are learned through failure. As the great golfer Bobby Jones once said “I learned more from a loss than a win.”

Yeah, those 20 somethings are all about things being handed to them and they don’t know how to grind to get it. Meh.

I don’t think you’ve met or dealt with very many in “this ‘new generation’ of job seekers”…

Every generation thinks the generations that come after it are lazy, entitled and don’t appreciate the value of hard work. My grandfathers knew the value of a dollar, weren’t afraid of hard work and didn’t think the world owed them anything. And I have zero doubt that THEIR grandfathers thought they were soft, lazy punks.

The “everyone gets a trophy” age group is just fine. You know what “everyone gets a trophy” does? Devalues trophies.
